Overview of the Disney Fort Wilderness Cabins in Orlando

The magnificence of staying in a 750 acre, wooded forest might seem like “roughing it” but consider that you are staying at one of the Cabins at the Disney World Fort Wilderness Resort. This is a Disney style wilderness adventure you will not soon forget. Located on Bay Lake, the Cabins share the surroundings with the Disney Wilderness Lodge and you can take a Water Taxi to the Magic Kingdom. Be sure to rent a golf cart early when staying at this Resort as it can be difficult to get around otherwise.

Rooms (Cabins)

All of the Cabins at the Disney Fort Wilderness are the same as far as layout and amenities go but you do have the option of the location you stay at. Since this Resort covers such a large area, consider if you want to be close to the Pool or maybe the lake and water transportation. Buses are continually running through the resort to get you to the different areas but having bikes or a golf cart is a much more efficient way to get around. Each of the cabins are about 550 square feet in size and have plenty of room for up to 6 guests. The full kitchen has everything you would need to prepare your meals for the day and having mousekeeping to keep things clean is a great addition.

Things to do

The real question is, is there anything you cannot do at the Fort Wilderness Resort. The Pools will be the most visited location if you have kids. The Meadow Swimming Pool is a larger community size pool with a 67 foot water slide. It also has a kids splash park with a couple of smaller water slides and plenty of sprinklers to go around. One thing to note: You need to bring your own towels to the pools as they are not provided. This is different from all of the other Disney World Resorts that provide towels at each of the main pool locations. So what else is available to do? How about spending some time at the Archery range learning how to shoot with a bow and arrow. At the Tri-Circle-D-Ranch, take the kids on a pony ride or go on your own horseback adventure. There are also Wagon rides for the family and Carriage rides for that romantic stay. Add in the fun on the lake with a Marina where you can rent a motorized boat, canoe or kayak or take your very own fishing excursion. Oh, did I mention the Bike Rentals, Basketball Courts, Volleyball or Playgrounds yet? As you can see, the Fort Wilderness Resort may be the most incredible camping experience you have in your entire lifetime.

Dining

Get some down home southern style cooking while visiting the Fort Wilderness Cabins at Disney World. Options include Table Seating at the Trail’s End Restaurant or Grab and Go options at the P & J’s Southern Takeout Food Court. Guests also come from other Resorts to take in the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue Musical Dinner Show and the kids always have fun at Mickey’s Backyard BBQ.
