Overview of the Disney Contemporary in Orlando

Probably the most featured property and showcased on many advertisements would be the Disney’s Contemporary Resort. The Contemporary has been around since the dawn of the Magic Kingdom and is the only Disney Location with a built in Monorail Station in the middle of the building. This alone is one reason guests flock to the property. There is really nothing else, anywhere like the Contemporary Hotel. When you walk inside the lobby area to check in, there is a small coffee shop and seating around with the check-in to your left. The real amazement happens when you head up a couple of levels of escalators to the 4th floor and this is where the Magic happens. This large, cavernous space is where you can see all of the levels where the rooms are towering all the way up to floor 15. There is also dining at Chef Mickey’s on this level, shopping and the station for the Monorail. All you have to do is look up and you will see the station and just watch for the train to come through. The Contemporary Resort is positioned in such a way that it has Bay Lake on the back side and the Seven Seas Lagoon on the front. No matter what direction you look, the views are spectacular.

Rooms & Suites

Even the Rooms and Suites are unique at the Contemporary Resort in Disney World. Did you know that each of the rooms were completely fabricated offsite and then lifted in to position and stacked on each other to build the entire structure? Think about this as you walk down the hallway and enter your room. Be sure to tell the kids how fascinating it is. Even though this property is one of the oldest in Disney World, it continues to be updated to have the most modern amenities available. The rooms are the largest standard available at any of the Disney World Resorts. All of the rooms have a balcony and the views of the Gardens are pretty but if you want to watch fireworks from the comfort of your own space, be sure to get a view of the Magic Kingdom. If you are traveling with a group or large family, consider getting a 1 or 2 bedroom suite.

Disney World Contemporary Resort Reviews

 PROS

Pros:
At some point, everyone should stay at the Disney World Contemporary Resort at least once, one writer said. This is due in part by the iconic nature of the building and how long it has been around but also because of the direct line of sight you get being right across from the Magic Kingdom. Fireworks displays are easily seen each evening without ever leaving the comfort of your room. The staff is well trained and consistently smiling and happy to help. The rooms are up to date and clean and the Water Slide at the pool is something the kids had a blast on.

 CONS

Cons:
Most of the guests have the best time ever at the Contemporary Resort in Orlando but there are a few complaints. The cost is the main issue with this resort being one of the more expensive Deluxe locations. Other guests discuss that the bathrooms are a little on the smaller side. Room location is key. If you get a room to low in the atrium, the noise of the restaurants and general people walking around can be a bit distracting.

Things to do

With the Contemporary Resort being in the middle of the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake, it is set up perfectly to enjoy Water Sports on one side and Theme Park views and Water Taxi transportation on the other. The large marina allows you to rent boats and even go parasailing or take a fishing tour if you would like. A white sandy beach has a Volleyball court set up to play with friends. The main attraction at the resort would have to be the pools. The main feature pool has a 130 foot water slide and also has a sprinkler park for the kids to play in and another pool is located next door at Bay Lake with another water slide. Cabanas are available for rent but be sure to reserve one early because there are only a few available.

Dining

For the best in Dining and the absolute best views around, be sure to check out the California Grill. You check in on the 2nd floor and take an elevator to the 15th floor where you have full panoramic views and some of the best food around. If you are bringing the kids along, you will want to get your reservations set for a Character Breakfast at Chef Mickey’s. There are also other dining options like The Wave and Highway in the Sky as well as some quick service options.
